Survivor 51: Episodes, Twists, Schedule and Everything We Know

Survivor 51 is where the show stops playing by its own rulebook. CBS calls it the Open Era: 21 brand new castaways, any twist or advantage from 50 seasons of history allowed back into the game at any moment, and a cast playing under what they call “Permanent Uncertainty.” This hub is the season in one place: the format, the full episode schedule, where to watch live, the twists seen so far, who holds the idols, and links to everything else. It is refreshed every week of the season.

What Is the Open Era?

For 50 seasons, Survivor players could study the rulebook. In the Open Era the rulebook is a menu: any idol, advantage or twist from the show’s history can enter the game at any time, without warning, and the players will not be told what is coming. The season opened with the cast marooned together on one beach, no tribes named, and a single volunteer, Lewis Kelly, leaving the group for a solo journey before anyone had eaten.

The era’s biggest weapon is the returning coin flip. One player this season will face it: call it right and they win immunity, a hidden idol, and an extra $1,000,000 added to the winner’s prize. Call it wrong and they are eliminated on the spot, with the extra million rolling over to next season. It was announced in the premiere. It has not gone off yet.

Twists Seen So Far

  • Exile Island journey (Episode 1). Lewis volunteered to leave the group, spent about 30 hours alone, and failed a timed task to win an idol. He was safe from the first vote and then joined the tribe that lost immunity, Toka.
  • Live Tribal Councils (Episodes 1-3). Plans are being made and broken in the open, in front of Jeff Probst, seconds before the vote. Episode 1’s live discussion flipped the target from Jenna to Aaliyah; Episode 2’s produced Rob’s blocked self-vote and a producer stepping in.
  • Shot in the Dark (Episode 1). Jenna and Aaliyah both surrendered their votes for a one-in-six chance at safety. Neither scroll said safe, and every vote against them counted.
  • Idols with no Beware (Episodes 1-2). Both tribes’ hidden idols were found clean: Rob found Savu’s in Episode 1, and Jelly found Toka’s in Episode 2. No conditions, no lost votes.
  • The camp visit and mutiny (Episode 3). Each tribe sent a visitor to the other camp, and the visitors could choose to stay. Carter chose Toka, arrived holding Rob’s idol, had his bag searched within hours, and cast a deciding vote that same night.
  • The fire-making vote (Episode 1). Probst offered to remove the final four fire-making challenge if every player agreed. Only five voted to drop it, so fire-making stays.

That is the short version. The full Survivor 51 cast page has every player’s hometown, current home, votes against and live status.

Who Is Still in Survivor 51?

Sixteen of the 21 players remain after Episode 4, now split into three tribes after the swap.

On Dina (6): Cristian Chavez, Sharonda Cox, Eric Macksoud (four votes against him already), Linnea Capobianco, Lewis Kelly and Danny Kilby (survived a 6-5 vote in Episode 3).

On Toka (6): Brady Booker, Carter Krull (holding a hidden immunity idol), Kristin Flickinger, Maggie Nestor (holds an extra vote), Thien An Nguyen and Mike Pinsky.

On Savu (4): Alexis Levine, Devin Way (holds an extra vote), Jelly Loblack (holding a hidden immunity idol) and Ori Jean-Charles. Savu lost the Episode 4 immunity challenge and voted out Jenna Doore 4-1.

The swap has broken the old two-tribe numbers and every tribe is now one loss away from Tribal Council.

The Prize Money

The Sole Survivor receives $1,000,000 before taxes. The coin flip can push the pot to $2,000,000, at the risk of instant elimination for the player who calls it. What a winner actually keeps after federal and state taxes is far less than either number, and it depends on the winner’s home state. Our full Survivor 51 prize money breakdown, with the tax math, is linked from our reality TV guides as the pillar series continues.
